Thanks for the nice compliment! I adore Perlman, though I admit that I haven't really heard enough of his recordings to elaborate on it. You're absolutely right about differing opinions in music...it's nice to see someone who also understands this! Personally, Heifetz is not to my taste but it's wonderful to have varying ideas floating around on the blog. Please feel free to take a look and I hope you enjoy what you see. ;)

Great opinions!
Personally, I don't like Bell too much because I listen to too much Perlman and Heifetz. I guess that when he stands alone, he's good, but doesn't shine when in the shadows of Perlman and Heifetz and other greats.
I personally don't like Bell's interpretation of Estrellita. I think it is too light and airy, but you praise him for that. That's what I love about music: two people can think differently and neither of them are wrong! :) I recommend Perlman's recording of Estrellita (Perlman's Greatest Hits Vol. 2).
Again, great post.

hmm, i've never thought to look at it as how rowling wanted it. anyhow, i love it too. it will be a long time before a book would have the same kind of influence on the world as harry potter.

1. Kate, when you mention this...

"(for example, if you want an absolutely breathtaking rendition of his Violin Concerto in E Minor, listen to Bell’s recording of it. You’re also treated to a lovely Beethoven violin concerto on the disc, as well)"

...which disc is this on? I'm just about ready to purchase another j.bell work and I'm not sure which one it should be.

2. Also, I wondered if you were going to do a "Romance of the Violin" review sometime? Or did you already and I missed it?

3. What happened to Laura's blog? It disappeared.

4. And hi! :o)

The frustrations of art exist to make the A-HA! moments feel even better. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to banging my head against my own product of torture, aka my computer keyboard.
